It's worked great for me.
As others mentioned, the camera updates the GPS location every 10 seconds by default if the GPS is enabled, even if the camera's power switch is off. This will drain your battery after a week or so it seems like.
I set mine to 30 second update intervals and I just disable the GPS when I'm not using it. I added it to the custom My Menu for quick access.
