I owned the 150-500 and rented the new Bigma and I didn't see any difference in the 2 at 500mm

Lenstip.com calls it for the 50-500mm over the 150-500mm. See the Sigma long zoom lens comparison links at:

Personally I didn't see that much difference between the 50-500mm and the 150-500mm at 500mm myself either. However, I also give the nod to the 50-500mm. I gave my 150-500mm to a neice.

Cheers.

Finally, I choose Sigma 150-500 over Sigma 50-500 after found Robert O'Toole website.

http://blog.sigmaphoto.com/2011/the-50-500mm-vs-150-500mm-shootout-and-telephoto-faq%E2%80%99s-by-robert-o%E2%80%99toole/

My lens is the latest version which no more typical Sigma matte finish which is easy to peel off.

Other consideration is its price as this lens is my first long focal length over fl 300. After use for a while I found that change to other lens to cover fl 50-150 is not practical.
