It looks like you want one lens that covers wideangle to long telephoto. These lenses are called superzooms or all-in-ones. All-in-ones are not as sharp as two good shorter ratio zooms like an 18-105 VR and 70-300 VR. That said, newer all-in-ones can produce very good to excellent 8x10 prints. The larger you go beyond 8x10 the more sharpness you'll lose. They are also able to produce very good images if you display them electronically.

Sharpness can be measured objectively, but what is acceptable sharpness is subjective. I don't know if you will be happy with an all-in-one, but the naysayers can't be sure that you won't be. The only way to be sure is to try one. I've tried the Nikon 18-200 VR, Sigma 18-200 II OS HSM, and Tamron 18-270 VC PZD. I've settled on the Sigma, but only consider the new model. You can tell the new model by it's 62mm filter size. The old model takes 72mm filters.

Besides the Sigma I also have a Nikon 18-105 VR, Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Sigma 50-150 f/2.8, and Nikon 55-300 VR. These are all sharp lenses. I find that the Sigma 18-200 II OS HSM is virtually as sharp up to 8x10.

All-in-ones are full of design compromises, but all of photography is full of compromises. You give up a little sharpness but you lighten your load compared to carrying say an 18-105VR and 70-300 VR and you don't miss shots changing lenses. Years ago I missed a shot of Woody Allen in Central Park (NYC) because I had a wideangle on the camera. I can change lenses pretty fast, but the shot was gone in a flash (New Yorkers don't chase or bother celebrities).
