I actually got my hands on a K01, K30, K5II at a local brick and mortar. Seriously now, I just don't get how anyone can find the feel of the K01 appealing. You have to have webbed fingers I guess.
To each his own. And really, I don't like the K30 or K5II feel either. Nothing like my K10D and K100D.
I think people tend to forget how individual tastes are in the feel of a camera. My first DSLR was a DS and I loved the feel of it in my hand. Unfortunately I couldn't get on with its 1-dial controls so when the K10 came out I tried it in store. I didn't like the feel nearly as much as the DS but it was OK so I bought it and used it happily.
I didn't like the VPN so next year I bought a K20. About 30,000 shots with these two; then I moved to K-7. I tok it out the first afternoon, fired off a load of shots, then picked up my K20 to check I'd got all the settings the same. The K20 felt like a cumbersome brick; I used it as a second camera for over a year but always preferred the K-7/5 feel. So my experience is the opposite of yours.
Nikon and Olympus bodies have a raised bit along the edge of the finger grip. I know because my brothers, whose hands are very similar to mine, use them: they find the ridge helps wheras I hate it.
My Oly brother likes the small body size; I struggle; my Nikon vrotherswears by his FFs (D700, D2) - now, if you really want a brick try the D2/3/4 bodies.
Plenty of users here like a battery grip: I hate that style of deep body. And so on ...
