Excellent point. I still say that this has good DOF for portrait work, but I do agree that you would need to be close to the subject in order for DOF to be effective - which, being a 20mm, you would have to be close
Naturally, if you really wish to do portrait work, the 45mm f1.8 is better suited. But you can do excellent, crisp, portraits with the 20mm if you choose your background
