The EXR sensor is not an evolution of the old SuperCCD SR II sensor.  It is nothing of the kind.  Fujifilm, sadly, discarded the concept brought forward with the SuperCCD SR II (the honeycomb sensor shape and secondary R pixel), when they made the EXR design.

The EXR sensor has only been used in tiny p & s cameras while the SuperCCD SR II was used in SLR's for the most part.
