As others have indicated shooting low light indoors you will be fighting an uphill battle even with a fast zoom. A prime with a faster aperture will help a bit, a dedicated flash would be best, but when that is not an option you just have to grin and bear the results. One of the primary reasons I will be upgrading to full frame is improved high ISO performance.
Edit: for whatever reason the ISO isn't showing on the below picture. To keep shutter speed at 1/30 sec, it required an ISO of above 11K.
