Want FX but not impressed by D800 build quality

Having had the D7000 (now sold), still owning the D700 and now the D800, I find your comment a little strange as I think the build quality is at minimum just as good as the D700, albeit in a lighter package, and I think that is where you are getting mixed up, possibly. The D700 feels solid due to it's weight being about 170gms heavier than the D800, yet the D800 is still built just as well. As a comparison to your "beloved" D200, the D200 is about the same weight as the D800. By the way, as Bobn2 pointed out, the D800 also has a magnesium alloy frame.
