Following my thread "ZS7 or TZ10 question please" . . .

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3348238

. . . to test the iA mode, I took the ZS7/TZ10 round the inside of a National Trust historic house today, set to iA mode with flash off, photographing antiques and architectural details.

The settings at which the ZS7/TZ10 shot included:

At 400 ISO:  1/4, 1/6, 1/8 and 1/15 sec.

At 800 ISO:  1/3, 1/8 and 1/13 sec.

At 1250 ISO:  only 1 pic out of 28.

At 1600 ISO: only 1 pic out of 28.

Intelligent?  It is only because I have a relatively steady hand and the OIS that I got some acceptable results (and quite good results, for a compact camera).

Surely if you are a camera, "intelligent" means that you do not let your owner shoot at slower than 1/20 sec, unless you cannot increase ISO, or he tells you that you are on a tripod?

OK, normally I shoot in Aperture Priority and pick my own settings, but this iA performance means that I cannot with conscience hand the camera to my non-tech son and tell him to "just leave it in iA and you'll be OK".

Is this typical of Panasonic iA mode, which is alleged to be the best on the market?

Mike
