Had it not come with my new computer I wouldn't have bought Windows 8, but I don't see anything wrong with it; at least nothing to make me hate it. I don't even miss the start menu. I pinned the 4 or 5 applications I use regularly, along with the control panel, to the bar at the bottom of the screen. If there is something I can't find any other way I press the Windows key to go to the start screen and search for it.
For me it hasn't been a bad experience, just a different one.
