As far as hand holding is concerned, pixel count is irrelevant. Even with 1,000MP, shots printed at A4, for example, would be as sharp as equivalent shots taken with a 12MP sensor.
The only point about more pixels is that it gets harder to get sharp images at 100% enlargement.
