Depends how you use it. I think it can, in that you can use it to choose your Aperture and Shutter speeds. Over this it instantly gives you one pair that are correct, related to myour last choice (for an exposure) for when you have to shoot quickly without fumbling with any dial. I nealy always use it for all sorts of shooting from lanscape to fast action. My camera (&D) does have a easily rotated wheel to over or underexpose, not sure if all cameras have this though.

When I use M-mode it's because I want full control over when exposure settings is changed, even if light varies. Any automatic mode will be difficult to use for this.
