D40x, next move?

Sounds to me like you want a camera body with more features and options, so I too would suggest a D7000, or for less money, a D90, although the video on the D7000 is better and the D7000 feature set is definitely better than the D90's.

Is there something that your D40X isn't doing that you want it to do? If so, look at the various bodies and see which ones address what you need addressed.
