I saw the other thread with the link to the discussion 5 months ago by DPREVIEW. I wanted to respond but it maxed out. I never really saw that discussion or that it was even an option on the table.

First it does not matter if you use a Panasonic or Olympus lens and should not make the determination about a split forum.

Its always the body you talk about and then say I use this lens or lenses and mix and match this or that or don't.

It is rare someone will have a Panasonic GH-3 and Olympus OMD or just a mixture of bodies. Even if they do post the question on both forums.

The post will say I got this camera body and this Olympus lens or this Panasonic lens and this other flash.

So its the camera body that should be the determination not the accessories IMO.

My vote is 100% yes if it still can be split I am for it.

That's a very bad idea. It's a well-known fact around here that you personally think that bodies and lenses should be matched by brand. It's also a well-known fact that most people around here disagree with you about that.

Its a non-issue and it does not matter what lenses I think should do what with what.

Its all about the camera body. If I want a Nikon camera I'll ask in the Nikon forum and you'll talk about Nikon lenses or Tamron lenses.    You shop for the camera body first. Have questions about the camera body and the rest follows.

I am one of them. I use both Olympus and Panasonic equipment on the body as well as lens side and I mix and match them as I see fit. In addition, I am open to the idea of using MFT lenses as well as bodies from manufacturers other than these two as well. So far, we have no bodies from manufacturers other than Olympus and Panasonic, but we have native MFT lenses from several, including Cosina Voigtländer and Sigma (both members of the MFT consortium) as well as Samyang. And more is surely to come. On top of that, we of course have a large variety of adapted ("legacy") lenses to choose from. In general, I see the fact that I have products from several manufactuers at my disposal as an asset, not a liability, of the MFT system. It is one of several reasons why I chose it over others.

For me it would be a major disadvantage if the discussion about MFT equipment was divided into brand-specific forums, not only because it would make it more difficult to maintain an overview but also because it would be unclear where topics involving more than one brand should be posted so as to reach the proper audience. Where, for example, would a thread discussing the choice between the Olympus 9-18 versus the Panasonic 7-14 be posted. For anyone not sharing your belief about brand-specific body-lens matching, such a thread would be of obvious interest to owners of Olympus and Panasonic bodies alike.
