... but regarding portraits there are some simple rules to produce a good image. One of them -- shallow DOF, to get a good one with a small sensor requires fully opening the aperture. It really doesn't have to do much with the background. There are also noticeable diffraction effects at f/11, which are better to avoid. Then, what is the problem with the lights in that studio? Portraits like no other genre require well positioned lighting. Is this studio illuminated from a single window?
