I have a FZ200, a horse, ride english, don't show, but know the covered arenas/barns you speak of. If it is fully covered (sides, too as in the East) you will have problems, but if it is just a roof (as in out here in SoCal), you might be okay, depending upon how shadowy/contrasty. Amazon has a 30 day trial period, can't hurt to try. Prior to the FZ200, I trialed the Coolpix 510 which I also liked -- but decided I didn't need the extra zoom as much as the extra light (2.8).
