Pictures from video looked over sharpened for me from start. Later you confessed it was unsharp mask in Adobe Premiere... In first scene green plants are detailed but really over sharpened anything else is flat and without details. It is easy to see that in far background Sorry but defending A99 video quality doesn't make sense.

A99 uses same or almost same sensor and CPU as VG900 (no PDAF on sensor?). Video people were excited about VG900 till they saw codec bitrate. Most people with some experience expected this camera to lack details. Naming it VG and not FS put is in consumer class no semi/pro. While codec is same as anything else in NEX cameras starting from 5n generation there might be more issues due to higher resolution sensor. Down sampling and line skipping from 24mpix might be not as easy as from 16mpix sensor. Some marginal issues might come from PDAF on sensor too.

Sony is protecting their FS NEX line and higher prices/specs cameras for me it is obvious. I don't expected they will fix that issue with firmware upgrade. I doubt they will give better video in newer cameras. No matter what Sony people say their video below FS line is intentionally crippled.

I could repeat all SLT/NEX mentioned issues but think about it: why A99 USA NTSC version doesn't have 25/50p? It is pathetic that even cheapest cameras from other manufacturers have PAL/NTSC settings. A99 is first NEX/SLT camera to have this setting but only in PAL version.

Sony says they care about video and give you best video but reality is that most people who care about video chose Canon or Panasonic, even Nikon. Sony video starts from NEX FS line. A99 and VG900 aren't game changers in video.

This is really huge missed opportunity for Sony. All those indie wannabe videographers are buying Canons and Panasonics. Sony could easily catch them with few simple additions (they have all tech needed) to their SLT and NEX cameras but refuses that to protect their product line.

Very well stated. I think it's quite obvious something has been done to protect the FS line. I just don't get the marketing strategy..at all. The FS cameras will do many more things that the VG/Alpha line will not, like built-in ND filters, XLR adapters, super slow-motion (like FS-700's 960FPS). One would think they'd put a little more effort into this other than fluff piece marketing videos. Sorry I can't help laughing at the feeble attempt showcase this as a video camera.
