macbook retina basic fast enough?

Is the entry level macbook retina 15" fast enough for short but intense trips away, a few days, 50-60gb photos, some editing, then back home to finish the work on a desktop machine?

My ancient IBM t60 just can't cut the mustard anymore with big files from the canon 5d MKIII.
