I have Canon 5DII, 5DIII and Nikon D700. I don't have D600 so that I can't say much about it. But D600's AF should be weaker than D700 based on the specs.

My experience is that in extremely dark conditions, D700 can still focus quickly with the help of AF illumination light. Both 5D III and 5D II can't achieve focus. When there is some dim light (still very dark), both D700 and 5DIII can focus well. 5D II still struggles. The reason is that D700's illumination light helps a lot when it is extremely dark.

I was using Nikon 35mm 1.4G lens with D700. Canon 35mm 1.4 L lens for 5DII and 5DIII.

When on camera flash (SB900 for Nikon and 600Ex_RT for Canon) is on, all systems can focus, including the 5D II.
