Is prior DSLR ownership needed to appreciate a NEX?

I have never had, or wanted, a DSLR. I used to use an SLR's (most recently Pentax LX) and occaissionly still do. I bought my first P&S a couple of months before my first child was born (she's now nine) and gradually stopped using film. The reason i changed to NEX from Cyber-Shot was that i sometimes felt i wanted more control than is available on the average P&S, plus the big benefit of being able to use my old Pentax lenses. Even back in the nineties i was often trying to use zoom-compacts such as the Pentax Espio as i used to find even film SLR's a bit big and fussy-to-use at times (hence no interest in even bigger DSLR)
