What gave you that idea? That is not true at all. Lloyd Chambers has tested some older Nikons against their Zeiss counterparts and in nearly all cases the Zeiss lenses blow away the older Nikons (sharpness, color, CA, contrast, ...). The Zeiss 25/2.8 might be the only exception.
