On a side note: studio strobes can trigger the SU4-mode on the SB900.

ATM I'm using FlexTT w. Nikon iTTL and Canons flashes triggered by PWII(I) and a cord or the RT-system w. Canon bodies - thats for a strobist like style.

With larger gear the Air system has its benefits - simply not having to climb up to make adjustments is worth it, even if you don't take the studio software into account.

Thinking about vendor lock in - mix and match is troublesome anyway; different mounts, keeping pilot lights in proportion or more subtle points like operation characteristics or managing spare parts.
