Could be of course, but which lenses did you use for your comparison? If you used a slow AF-ing Canon lens, then the speed result in good light does not mean too much...

I see that you used the EF 24-70mm f2.8 L USM and the AF-S 24-70mm f2.8 G. That is not too unreasonable then, although the new EF 24-70mm f2.8 L USM II is MUCH faster in AF operation, and does AF faster (on 5D mk III at least) than the Nikon (on D800).
