Pocket Wizard or proprietory flash trigger?

Several monolights (Broncolor Minicom, Profoto D1, Hensel Expert etc) come with optional proprietory radio triggers that are incompatible with other systems. An alternative is to use e.g. Pocket Wizard as a release mechanism. I believe this will enable simultaneous use of a speedlight (e.g. SB-900) and a monolight (e.g. Broncolor Minicom). Any views/experiences?
