I like your photo of the string of lights in a tree. It looks like you moved the camera in a perfect triangle. The lights look pretty cool.

A few years ago I saw something similar done with a Christmas tree strung with colored lights in the dark. By moving the camera vertically, he created vertical streaks of lights. I think maybe it was Beacon or Bill Huber from Olympus Talk Forum.
