Macbook Air Software to rip DVD?

Hi, I'm a new user of a Macbook Air and I would like to have you support to solve my problem. I bought a new DVD and I would like to see it on my iPhone 4S. I used Handbrake but when I'm converting the film it crashes! I'm searching now for a DVD Converter that have the right codecs to convert it into MP4 format..

Can you tell me what can I do? Please note that the DVD is encrypted in some way.

What software is recommended for me and where can I find it?
