RX1 is even more expensive if the photos are rubbish!

While I agree with the observation, I think you need to relax a bit. Why this would bother you? There are lots of good photos produced on crap cameras too. Are you going to get annoyed with these people not buying a more expensive camera?

And I don't understand the point you're trying to make. That these people shouldn't buy expensive cameras because they can't create award-winning photographs with them? People who aren't race car drivers also buy very expensive sports cars. People who are shitty musicians buy expensive instruments. In part because they can afford to, and in part because the purchase represents something to which they aspire to. And so who knows? Maybe with enough practice, the same person shooting a lot of bad shots will eventually learn how to shoot a good photos, and more importantly only upload the good ones to the web. And just maybe - MAYBE - having the expensive equipment will inspire them to practice more or learn more about the craft.

I own a Leica too (M8) and consider myself a decent photographer now, but looking back, I took a lot of terrible shots 5 years ago when I first got it. But I carried it everywhere with me because I LOVED using it and aspired to take shots worthy of the camera which I eventually reached. I LEARNED from taking terrible shots.

But the bottom-line is that there is no justification necessary to own an expensive piece of any equipment other than having enough money and enjoying it.  Life's too short to begrudge anyone else anything else that makes them happy.
