If you compare the A99 with the EM5 or GH2/3 you are comparing apples with oranges. They have different sensor sizes and behave differently. One buys the A99 for shallow depth of field, for film effects such as here:

If you want a video camera that does AF and gets everything from front to back in focus I suggest you opt for a handicam such as this one:

I believe what a lot of people mistake is, only because the A99 or other still cameras have incredible video functions, they are not point and shoot cameras. If you look into the "behind the scenes" video in the first link you can see what kind of "extras" might be involved in producing outstanding videos. External audio/ video recorders/ rigs/steadycams...to name but a few.

In terms of sharpness any handycam even some point and shoot digtal compact cameras might beat any of the higher end DSLRs/DSLTs but then...they can't do shallow depth of field.

At no point have I used AF, nor will I use it.  I'm not trying to get everything front to back in focus, I'm just trying to get anything in focus, everything in the focal plane is soft. I went close, medium and wide and it's all mush. It's clearly a compression or codec issue. I've had 2 cameras and the both are the same, a major disappointment. There's nothing in The Calling that shows any great detail either, put it on a TV and find me one detailed shot without shallow DOF. DSLR's aren't exclusively shallow DOF cameras, I didn't have these issues with my 5d2 so I'm surprised to get it with a DSLR touted to have class leading video.
