every one will tell you that he loves to take photos and he has lots of great pics. i have been taking photos with digital cameras since it started, i only got one DSLR camera and it was a canon, it did not take long for me to sell ( i needed the money ).

i want to get back and take some pics now and then, i have been looking at the d7000 for some time and i don't know if it is the camera to get.

i know that there's the d600 but i can not afford it.

i am planing to get a body only and getting the 50mm/1.8G lens. my problem is i know that the d7000 is a great camera for me as a beginner but i see that there is the d5100/d5200 cameras and i think, maybe since the d7000 was some what old then maybe the 5100 since it is new then it is the equivalent or even better then the d7000?

i am not looking to take pics of weddings or sports or wild life, i just want to take pics from time to time.

yes pics can be taken with lots of cheaper cameras ( sorry for saying even the iphone ) but the photos with an dslr are more crisp and clearer when you crop them.

your input please.

that camera and lens combination will be great for what you want to accomplish.

the 5100 is not better than the D7000. they have the same sensor but the 5100 has no focus motor so it is not compatible with older lenses (for autofocusing) but it is lighter weight than the d7000
