every one will tell you that he loves to take photos and he has lots of great pics. i have been taking photos with digital cameras since it started, i only got one DSLR camera and it was a canon, it did not take long for me to sell ( i needed the money ).

i want to get back and take some pics now and then, i have been looking at the d7000 for some time and i don't know if it is the camera to get.

i know that there's the d600 but i can not afford it.

i am planing to get a body only and getting the 50mm/1.8G lens. my problem is i know that the d7000 is a great camera for me as a beginner but i see that there is the d5100/d5200 cameras and i think, maybe since the d7000 was some what old then maybe the 5100 since it is new then it is the equivalent or even better then the d7000?

i am not looking to take pics of weddings or sports or wild life, i just want to take pics from time to time.

yes pics can be taken with lots of cheaper cameras ( sorry for saying even the iphone ) but the photos with an dslr are more crisp and clearer when you crop them.

your input please.

You clearly have specified that you "won't" be taking photos of weddings, sports or wild life, and since you are talking about getting a G lens, then you clearly do not need the D7000 with the built-in motor where you can use older D lenses.

For taking photos "from time to time" you should be okay with a lower less expensive model, but de get good lenses and an external flash. PLEASE, invest on the external flash.

And no, the "technology" and capability in the D7000 is not old. I will say that maybe in around five years more there will be something else that will make this camera old for what WE use it for, but certainly not for YOUR application.

Ok, seriously. Every time I see you give "advice", it's bad.

What would "not taking portraits or weddings or sports pics" have to do with a built-in focus motor?

Seriously what?? Maybe you are the one that takes things TOO seriously. Seriously.

I simply said to mad man that it doesn't sound that he needs an expensive camera as the D7000, AND he sertainly does not need it because he will be buying G lenses, that is why he will be just fine with a D5100 or a lower end model. Is that a better explenation?

Good lord.

No. It's not a good explanation.

First of all, you mean to say "AF-S" lenses, not "G lenses". But regardless, what does that have to do with what kind of pictures the OP does or does not what to take?

Please stop giving advice until you have a clue what you're talking about.

Excuse me! yes AF-S lenses. The guy is asking for help, he specifically says no weddings, no sports, no wild life, he will only use it from time to time, and he is a beginner, plus he doesn't mention he likes to use or has any D lenses, so why would i suggest the D7000 to him? He clearly does not need ISO, and the "built-in motor in the camera. What would you suggest to him, the D600?

Oh my god. What the hell are you talking about? "He does not need ISO"? Not to mention, you STILL haven't answered my question!

Mad man is specifically saying that he desn't know if he should buy the D7000 to take photos "now and then", can you not read english?? I am simply suggesting to mad man, NOT YOU NFPOTTER, that this camera might be too much for him, the learning curve, more money, not as sharp out of the camera photos as other cameras perhaps even the lower end Nikons, etc, etc. Sharpness is usually what new users complain about at first after getting a D7000.

I am not trying to fulfill your own personal requirements nfpotter.

I can read English. You're not speaking it, and your "suggestion" makes absolutely NO SENSE. And you STILL haven't answered my question.

Dude, what are you on?? Are you okay man?? There is no need to get like this. In the first place think about this, do you actually think i HAVE to answer to YOU? On what basis? Are you here to help or to fight?  Why don't we just move on with our lives?  what do you say?
