Is prior DSLR ownership needed to appreciate a NEX?

I'm not sure why you read into my post that I personally was feeling disappointed.  I had some question both before and after my purchase as to whether a NEX or DSLR was most appropriate for me, but my post here was intended as a general question based upon a variety of posts from others I have seen on the forum. I was just saying that,  in general, some people who have purchased NEX cameras coming from a p&s have voiced some disappointment.   Any issues or questions I have had about the NEX myself relate more to ergonomics and ease of controls (or even with regard to which NEX is most appropriate for me), but not image quality.
