Help! Shooting retirement dinner as a favor-- need advice.

Thanks for the advice-- I'll see if I can get a speedlight somewhere and take the two recommended lenses.

Do I set the camera to portrait mode? Do I shoot jpeg or raw? I shoot raw for most of my landscape/nature shots and that would give me the flexibility to change the mode. I guess that might be my best bet. Again, thanks.
