i am planing to get a body only and getting the 50mm/1.8G lens. my problem is i know that the d7000 is a great camera for me as a beginner but i see that there is the d5100/d5200 cameras and i think, maybe since the d7000 was some what old then maybe the 5100 since it is new then it is the equivalent or even better then the d7000?i am not looking to take pics of weddings or sports or wild life, i just want to take pics from time to time.
yes pics can be taken with lots of cheaper cameras ( sorry for saying even the iphone ) but the photos with an dslr are more crisp and clearer when you crop them.
your input please.
One thing to keep in mind is that the higher up the product line you go, the longer the product development cycles. So a 2-year old enthusiast camera is a current product, while a 1-year old consumer model is ready for a "model year update".
In the case of the D5200, it's much more than a model year update. But aside from the 24MP sensor (which some people might appreciate if doing landscape or studio work on a budget) most of what it gains over the D5100 is already in the D7000 (39 point AF for example). And while it has the articulating LCD, it still has a smaller pentamirror VF and lacks the extensive controls of the D7000.
If it were me, I'd choose the D7000. (I have a D7000 that I bought 1 year ago).
And for the lens, I agree with others. 35/1.8 is close to a "normal" on APS-C while 50mm I find too short or too long for just about everything. I have no desire to own one even alongside other lenses, never mind use one as my only lens.
