X10 photo's look slightly out of focus, not very sharp

After finally loading some photos onto my pc, I got a bit of a shock to see mostly soft and unfocused pics. Out of 80 pics, I couldn't see one sharp one on a 22" monitor. If I zoomed in slightly it just got worse. The serial no was a 23N which is a later model.
I checked all the settings to make sure everything was ok and tried medium and large picture setting. Also reset the camera but still the photo's which look great on the lcd when zoomed in fully, look slightly off focus on the pc monitor. No area of the pics look sharp.
I went to Jessops and the guy there agreed that he couldn't get a sharp pic out of it.
We tried a brand new one with a newer serial, 24N and that was exactly the same and I left with a refund and no camera.
I'm still wondering if I have missed a setting or something, as so many reviews talk of the sharpness of the X10.
I just looked at some older pics with my GF3 and they are very sharp even with some zooming on my pc.
I was wondering if I was expecting too much but even my wife noticed the the slightly soft out of focus thing.
Should the X10 be that much worse than the GF3 ..just remembered though...GF3 with 14mm fixed lens.
Can someone else with a 23N or 24N model give there opinion of focus or sharpness? ..not just on the lcd.
I'm thinking it must be a setting as it wasn't as good as the LX5 I had and I know this can't be right.
Still thinking of testing it again as it's just about the perfect camera for me, if the focus thing hadn't surprised me this morning.
Many thanks
