Re: D800 for FX, D4 for CX

Hi Brad,

It makes all the difference when you hear it from someone who owns both cameras; your comments are most useful.  There is nothing worse than people promoting only what own, if you know what I mean.  When you say CX do you mean DX?

My D4 is my prime body for wildlife and invariably I’m at ISO 1600 plus most of the time.  It delivers cracking images well beyond 3200, as I’m sure you are aware.

I’m after a second body to replace my aging D300, which was released before the original iPhone, now that is old!  I’m hoping that a D400 might emerge with a similar spec as the Canon 7D.  Namely, a DX chip with a high is pixel count (around 20 meg) for my sunny day stuff when noise isn’t an issue.

Returning to the video side, numerous people in the film industry have described the Nikon D4 video standard as “near broadcast quality" due to the compression rate.  Apparently the D800 range is compressed even more aggressively!  I really don’t know who writes this stuff!

Here’s a link to Thom Hogan’s video thoughts.

My thinking was to acquire a Ninja 2, which would alleviate this compression issue and also help with focusing.  The DP6 is somewhat cheaper but the Ninja 2 is more capable.

Let’s see what anyone else can offer.
