That's a bit alarming to say the least! I hate this throw-away society, and as somebody on a low income, have to make my purchases last.
Of course, the manufacturer's don't really care because their interest is in selling us stuff, but if there is an Achilles heel in an 'expensive' product, it should be mandatory that a spare part is available (at a reasonable cost) to keep that product functional.
Let's say the screen lasts 2000 hours, which is a low ball guess based on the blue channel which goes quickest. That is say 1000 charges, and if you can get 250 images on a charge, that makes for 250,000 image screen life. Lets be more conservative and say it lasts for 500 hours. That is still about 60,000 images.
I think those all sound reasonable life for a consumer camera. Obviously though, the screen doesn't fail instantly, it degrades over time. Brightness might start dropping noticeably after less than half the life, and also the brighter you have it set the quicker it will degrade.
I think Samsung claims more like 30,000 hours, but who knows what field use will be. Other factors like temperature could rapidly accelerate degradation. I don't know enough about AMOLED technology to know details.
