New shooters read up: Canon G's vs DSLR

I should have been clear: There are a number of people that want BOTH, superzoom & image quality.  You have the former, you could settle for a 1/2.3" sensor & many do.  Or you buy the a DSLR body, then spend $$$ to get a good superzoom lens.

Talk to a lot of people who like to photography wildlife, especially birds, and the kit lenses are not of much use.

If someone came out with something with like a 1/1.63" sensor & a fixed 300 mm or larger lens, but sacrificed wide angle & macro, there would be a market for it.  Too specialized an item?  Don't know.
