Aperture Priority Mode shooting is a must for me and use of AA batteries is convenient when ie you can shoot while batteries are charging in your room .
I am using canon sx130is if you want small form factor check canon sx160is (16x optical)
If you can carry around a bit bigger camera Fujifilm s4500 is also worth looking at in your price point.
If you just want to keep everything in focus than these are not for you.
