Battery questions in regards to aftermarket battery grip for my T4i

I bought a Meike battery grip for my T4i and I was wondering if it was okay to run the factory canon battery and pair it with an aftermarket one (photive seems to be a popular choice)? Also has anyone one done tests to see what performs better, a pair of LP-E8 batteries or 6 AA eneloops?
