All that you have stated is true; I might even be inclined to suggest that it is self-evident.

That said, I think the OP made an accurate (not particularly novel, but accurate) statement regarding the camera relative to its cost.

At its price one better be sure that it is what you really want because more broadly capable cameras are available for similar money.

Whether or not all those other features are needed/valued would logically be part of that assesment as would a comparison of size/weight/bulk.

My guess is that for most people it is a mute point as this will be a secondary camera with some brand of ILC also in the bag (or the front hall closet).

Again, I looking forward to your pictures.

Best-

The term is moot. not mute.

You're right there.

I disagree that there are cameras that are similarly priced with more capabilities.

Really? Amazon has the 5D3 kit for $3,700.00. If you are buying the RX1 comfortably and you want to miximize its potential you are going to buy an EVF or OVF with it.

When all is said and done that you are near enough to Canon's flagship prosumer SLR.

Run the numbers on a kit D600 or 6D.

Run a 6D and a 35 1.4 L

Fact: You can produce National Geographic images with a lowly 24-105L so conversations about comparable lenses is nerd talk for 99% of DPR let alone the Cyber-shot forum.

Ask any Pro you know what combo he would chose if he had to spend the rest of his life with just one. Ask why.

I also disagree with the OPs point relative to the cost and what this camera brings to the table. Since you want to play the on topic card. If this camera was being discussed in the Nikon or Canon DSLR forums it wouldnt even come up as a large amount of money.

Most certainly not true. Almost everybody there considers a $3,500.00 fixed focal length compact camera expensive. Those that don't rationalize it with a not wholly appropriate (IMHO) Leica comparison.

I suppose it is a good thing it isn't a $3500 camera then. Are you able to rationalize your point of view without stacking on the accessories and comparing the Zeiss lens to kit lenses by Canon and Nikon? If not then you really aren't making your point.

But you are not.

I made a central premise: People buying the RX1 comfortably will purchase a OVF or an EVF. That's not "stacking" the camera with accessories.

$2800 + $400 = $3200.

$2800 + $600 = $3400

D600 $2000 + 35 FX $1600 = $3600.00

Where I live $3400 = $3600 when it comes to buying fancy cameras. Anyone who disagrees with that can't afford any of these cameras so the discussion is moot and they should be mute.

Anyone who understands what SLRs are and what they do will tell you that the SLR is the more broadly capable imaging machine. That's a fact; not my rinky-dinky opinion.

We can argue ad nauseum about individual needs/wants/perceptions but most people would consider the SLR more capable in the generally agreed upon sense of things.
