No, they have not. As far as I can recall one Sony rep in an interview not specifically dedicated to this subject has merely said "why yes, we could do that, if there was demand and it made sense".

Another sensior Sony technology manager poured cold water on the idea, noting that in order to cover the full frame sensor, adapted full frame lenses would have to be used. This manager also put an end to all speculation that there'd be an interchangeable lens RX1 down the road.

In short, they haven't announced any firm direction for future full frame compact cameras.

Sure you can shove a big sensor behind the mount, but that doens't make it usable. E mount lenses only cover the APS-C sensor; the image circle isn't large enough to cover a full frame sensor.

To that end you need to slap a Sony Alpha to E mount lens adapter to get full frame coverage and autofocus.

You could adapt other manual focus lenses. Rangefinder lenses would be a popular choice but we've already seen very poor performance from 35mm and wider rangefinder lenses. The free ride these full frame lenses get on adapted APS-C cameras goes away with a full frame sensor, and there's no way Sony will ever produce a full frame (or APS-C) camera that is specifically tuned to the needs of rangefinder lenses with Leica's mount. No way.

The VG900 seems like a trial balloon and an ill-conceived product, but my opinion means nothing - I don't know the first thing about video beyond the basics and I'm certainly not the target market for a video camera like the VG900.

I can say if the same approach was transplanted to a NEX still camera, there's no way I'd consider purchasing it.

And now Sony Rumours is saying there are no confirmed plans for any new full frame camera of any type.

For sure they'll make more but of what type and when. Given that not even Sony seem to know where they are headed right now, it certainly is too early for us to guess.
