Techniques for images as done on Daily Show, and Colbert Report

I have done my fair share of working with Photoshop to make gag images, etc. However, the work they do on these shows is on a whole other level. Does anyone know of any articles, videos on line or books that delves into this fascinating area? Sorry if I am asking an old question, I did not know how to search it.
