I picked up the camera in Vietnam, and was only using it to make a record of what I saw around me, and that desire grew into what became a great hobby business.  There are some who have written here who would look at my work and tell me what is wrong with my equipment, subject matter, etc etc but you know what, publishers buy it.  We have written about getting a good book or taking a class.  What helped me more than any book, was taking the class from N.Y.I.  They would also tell you that your work is soft, but would explain in detail how to make your work better.  Best of all, they might help you sell work to pay for your equipment.  As my wife once put it, before N.Y.I. you won contest, but after N.Y.I. you sold work.  You don't see me posting in this forum very often, I am posting in the Black and White as well as the Street and Documentary forum.  For me the equipment is about taking pictures and it doesn't matter all that much about the gear.  I know that this forum is all about gear, but once you are happy with your gear, then what?  I still like to read reviews, but I am very happy with the camera and lens I own.  And thank you for sharing your work.  We all started down that same road, and many of us had help along the way.
