I have made a decision to keep my G12 until any company puts a larger/better sensor in a semi-compact fixed lens camera. As much as I “like” my G12, it is much too slow for any type of action shooting and needs at least 12MPs to produce more fine detail. The first company that introduces a 2/3-1/1.2” sensor, with a lens similar to the G15/P7700 will get me to upgrade “IF” the IQ is better than my G12. I really think Canon has tried long enough to squeeze as much IQ as they could out of that tiny 1/1.7” sensor, it’s time for a real change. By going to a 2/3” sensor, you would get 25%+- larger sensor area/photo-sites if they stay with 12MP’s! I know there is a trade off: larger sensor = larger lens/less zoom range. That is why I would like to see only a 25% larger sensor in order to get at least 140mm or preferably 180-200mm. You have to admit, the G series body IS large enough to accommodate at least a 2/3” sensor. Just think, 25% more light entering the sensor, how many stops is that?
