I tend to agree that he 250D or even a 500D lens will work great. I have a couple 500D's and I use them in lenses from 24mm on up with my Canon gear. They say the 250D is made for shorter focal lengths, I have never used one as my 500D lens seems to get the job done nicely.

I just received my 18-55 & XE-1 but do not have a 58mm close up lens. I have one (a 500D) on order & like you I am keen to give it a try. I never considered the 250D as I seem to be programed to the 500D for some reason.

It should make for some good close ups for flowers and larger critters that don't run off.
