S100 vs. SX260HS

So I'm looking for a nice P&S camera that I can easily take around with me. Even though the SX260HS is a bit bigger, both cameras are small enough for me and are within my price range. I like the S100 specs a bit more on paper, but the SX260HS comes in a very close second.

It seems like a chief complaint with the S100 is the lens error people are experiencing with S100 that have a serial number between 29xxxxx - 41xxxxx.

If you have a camera with a serial number outside of this range, have you experienced the lens error?

The camera I purchased (but have not opened yet) has a serial number of 46xxxxx. Does this mean that my camera is guaranteed to NOT have a lens error?

I'm a college student and I don't have the time to constantly send in my camera for repairs (seems like 3 times is the average, lol).

Should I just scrap the idea of getting an S100 and instead get the SX260HS?

Thanks for any advice you can provide me!

Happy photographing!

-Brian
