In some (few) cases the Canon has a slight edge in performance on the edge, but usually not on the extreme edge, however the Nikon seems to outperform overall in performance.
Take in to account that the Nikon was done on a D3 (12 megapixels) vs. the Canon 5DII (22 megapixels) and then you would have to say that the Nikon blows it away...

No, you're not reading it correctly. It seems like everyone misses this note on the main review summary page for each system on Photozone:
"Please note that the tests results are not comparable across the different systems."
