For years I was wed to Nikon, but I now use a Panasonic G3 and am very happy with this system.  I read many in this thread, and it seems that what we have come up with is the best camera for shooting the street.  Today we have several choices, but I am only going to remark on the system I now own, the G3.  I try and go on the street once a week and during the Democratic National Convention, shot the street using the 14mm lens, with focus set to nearest subject.  Great D.O.F., in that I wanted to make sure my subject was in focus and that you had a sense of the feel of where these shots were taken.  The Leica forum has great photos as well as one of the forum on this site that just covers street photography.  Is m 4/3 good enough?  It is better than what the best photographers in the past had to work with.  The camera that you can buy for a $1,000 for today would have cost thousands just 10 years ago.  My 5 megapixel Nikon 5000 p&s cost around $1,250 when it came out in 2002, and I bought it when the price dropped to $750.  Yes m 4/3 will get the job done, and it is a joy to use.  I hate using a long lens, I want to be close to my subject and fill the frame even when using the 14mm.
