I haven't tried a UV filter with my FZ200 yet (the wife insists that the camera stay under the Xmas tree until Xmas day), but I'm of the school that you always add a UV filter to your lens. I did it with my 35mm film SLRs and I've done it with every digital camera I've had that was threaded for filters (which excludes only the wife's little camera purse and an underwater camera). Getting a significant scratch on an lens for a DSLR or any other camera with replaceable lenses is expensive enough, but getting a significant scratch on a somewhat pricey point & shoot (which includes my old FZ35 and now the FZ200) mean replacing the entire camera. I've never had a UV filter throw off my exposures or my focusing, so they've struck me as doing little fi any harm while providing pretty inexpensive protection.
