New camera suggestions.

I am looking to replace a Canon Powershot S3 IS. The camera has done me well, but it has a few issues and is getting pretty long in the tooth.
I like to take mainly nature photos, with a few family ones thrown in here and there. You can see what I have done with the Canon on flickr here.
For a new camera, I would like something with a more zoom. One thing that I always seem to miss when I am out in the woods are the birds. Better low-light performance would be nice as well. But the 5-year-old Canon is just that- 5 years behind in technology, so I would expect most cameras to be better than it. Another thing that I would like, although I haven't completely made up my mind, is GPS. The idea of being able to track a hike with photos is very appealing.
As for type of camera, that is where I need help. The new super-zooms are nice, they are similar to my Canon (although bigger), and have great features. Compact zooms also appeal to me. Fitting into a pocket, but still getting 20X reach sounds appealing. However, I knew I would be giving something up when it comes to features and optics.
When it comes to price, I would like to stay under $400. I know that's limiting, but it is what it is.
I have done the research and come up with some players, But I would like to have some more experienced suggestions.
Possible options
Compact zooms with GPS: Panasonic Lumix ZS20; Canon SX260 HS, Sony HX30v
Super zooms with GPS: Sony HX100V, Nikon P510,
Super Zoom without GPS: Canon PowerShot SX40 HS, Panasonic FZ60, Olympus SZ-30MR
Thanks for any help on these cameras or any others.
